Programme Operation Context

DRC has been characterised since independence by a state of denial of rights, the collapse of the governance system, the marginalisation and exploitation of the huge majority of the population in term of access and control over resources and political decision. In addition to this the implication of neighbour countries and foreign multinationals justifies the recurrent conflict that DRC has been struggling across its history since its independence and that culminated in the partition of the country in 1988. Today, DRC still challenged on how to implement effectively the peace accord that the country managed to secure since two years after many failures.

Community tensions remain high in the eastern part of the country, while in the west, the political instability is source of fear and recurrent disorder. The civil society has been very instrumental in the pushing for a peace accord, but today, it has been negatively affected by current political divisions. The issue of DRC has strong ramification on the region.

The huge country is suffering generally from lack of means of communication. This together with bad governance has generated physical and psychological marginalisation and exploitation of remote areas. Due to marginalisation, most of the communities in DRC have engineered copping mechanisms and local systems that allowed them to survive in a complete absence of state responsibility and accountability.

Thematic areas of concentrations

The program is in a transition process, trying to come up with a coherent strategy for DRC building on the existing operations in kingambwe in suburb area of Kinshasa and in Isangi in Kisangani. The final strategic document is finalised waiting approval.
