- Programme Development Puzzle:
Making the Pieces Fit is a practical 94 page handbook from
the National Minority AIDS Council (NMAC). Written by three
CompassPoint staff (when its name was Support Centre for Nonprofit
Management), this handbook is a step-by-step guide to developing a
new programme, budgeting for it, fitting the programme into the
organisation, and writing a proposal to fund it. Available free on

- Global Challenge, Local
Response is a training pack consisting of a video and a
facilitator's guide. The pack forms part of VSO's approach to
mainstreaming and integrating HIV/AIDS issues and considerations
into all its work in Southern Africa. It is primarily aimed at
preparing new VSO volunteer development workers for playing a part
in addressing HIV/AIDS during their stay in Southern Africa, and
is being used as part of an integrated in-country training
programme. The video, introduced by Elton John, was shot in
Namibia and Zambia and is 28 minutes long. The pack is available
for sale at £20 (excl. post and packaging). To order, send an

- Beijing Plus Five Project:
Final Report; Gender and Development Network. This is the
final report of a project set which out to conduct a review of UK
based NGOs to find out how they had progressed in implementing and
promoting the Beijing Platform for Action (BPFA). For a copy,

- How to Challenge a Colossus:
Engaging with the World Bank and the IMF by Geraldine
Terry, February 2001, Gender and Development Network. This report
was written to help UK-based Gender and Development (GAD)
advocates to develop effective strategies aimed at influencing the
World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. It tries to show
how the Beijing Platform for Action (BPFA) can be used to lobby on
key issues of the Bank and the Fund's work, suggests broad
strategies and identifies relevant targets. For a copy contact GAD

- Latin American Experiences of
Gender, Conflict and Building Sustainable Peace: Challenges for
Columbia by Caroline Moser and Fiona Clark. Report on a
conference held in Bogota, Columbia in May 2000.
WEB BASED RESOURCES
United Nations INSTRAW-GAINS invites you to join its
collaborative programme on "Men's Roles and Responsibilities in
Ending Gender-Based Violence". This programme has two
collaborative activities: a set of working papers and an e-mail based
Virtual Seminar Series focused on men and ending gender-based
violence. Experts and activists in the field facilitate each seminar.
The series began on 20 June with the question "How can
conversations around men, masculinities and power help us understand
and end gender based-violence?" .You can join the programme
mailing list by sending an email with "subscribe" as the
subject to EMVnet-request@un-instraw.org.
By joining the programme you can
participate in:
- the discussions of the Virtual
Seminar Series
- a forum for information and resource
exchange
- opportunities for Partnership
Building and updates
- Summaries of the Working Paper
Series.

The Kabissa-Fahamu eNewsletter
is an extremely useful and detailed free, weekly information service
and advocacy tool for social justice in Africa. It links to the week's
most important news articles on: conflict, emergencies, and crises;
rights and democracy; corruption; health; education and social
welfare; women and gender; refugees and forced migration; racism and
xenophobia; environment; media; development; the internet and
technology.It also points to updates in fundraising, courses,
seminars, and workshops. More than 3000 individuals in NGOs,
international organisations and networks, funding agencies and
foundations, governments, and the private sector are currently

The Women of Uganda Network (WOUGNET)
have launched a useful new website at http://www.kabissa.org/wougnet/
The organisation's goal is to promote the
use of information and communication technologies by women
organisations and individuals for the better being of Ugandan women.
The WOUGNET website profiles women
organisations based in Uganda (including links to their websites where
available) as well as women related projects and activities in a
variety of areas including agriculture, business, education, health
and women in parliament.
