Programme Operation Context
|
Lake Chad
basin covers a part of Niger, Nigeria, Cameron and Chad. The
general analysis of the area is that climatic factors are
contributing to the deterioration in the livelihood of the people.
The change in
the rainfall regime over the 25 years has changed the landscape
and disrupted human activities. This has affected the basin of
life, which is the main defense against food insecurity for the
agricultural, animal, husbandry and fishing communities present on
its main islands. The basin is the essential element in the
overall ecological balance of the sub region.
The region is
known of having poor rural areas that the people survive on
seasonal work and cross-border smuggling to survive. The state
investment is low and there is week civil society participation in
governance system. |
The main thematic
areas:
The program runs
across three countries namely Cameroon, Nigeria and Chad.
The program adopted a
progressive development approach to implement program activities as
per availability of resources. As such, the program is evolving and
adapting from activities developed since decades in Chad. The
following are areas or activities:
The program is working with villages associations,
government structure (Agriculture, planning) and various numbers of
International actors in the region. It is working with about
130 villages in area of Mongo, Am Dam, Bokoro and a part
of rural de Ndjamena.
ACORD is member of CILONG, the network of international and local
NGOs.
The following are area of concentration:
Livelihoods and civil society/social action: ACORD is
supporting in Mongo, Bokoro, Am Dam, districts to elaborate village
developments Plans. This process involves local authorities, local
state technical services and communities. It is based on ACORD
elaborated methodology on community intervention (MIC in French).
During the process of planning, the villages form in that process,
villages associations that catalyze, manage, and monitor the
implementation of the plans. |
